Fountain Information

Fountains are basically chambers of liquid, and that liquid is pushed out of various nozzle shapes by compressed air. Generally, the fountain shapes do not actually collide with falling drops, although it can happen. Outer fountain shapes usually create decorative shapes and the central fountain can also be used to create a jellyfish shape or use another shaped nozzle.
Each chamber of air will rise differently so I usually use my phone to make a slow-motion video and from that I can calculate specific changes to the timing of the release of compressed air so that all the sections of the fountain are in the desired position when the camera and flash capture an image.

This is the fountain that produced the images on this page. There is 3 individual chambers, each supplying liquid and air to a spinning rotor.

This video is a compilation of some of the captures during the use of the triple spinner fountain in previous image. It demonstrates the different captures for a number of fountains where the only change was to the colours that I put into the chamber prior to the capture.

This photo gives an idea of the size of this particular fountain. This particular series of captures was a bit larger than others because I needed to use a higher air pressure to get the spinners all rotating. You can also view a section of the fountain and plumbing that is fitted to the underside of the black tray.
